Kuala Lumpur: The Immigration Department (JIM) detained 188 illegal immigrants during a raid at a Pudu nightspot, where patrons were engrossed in 'Dugem', a popular Indonesian techno-dance music, early Wednesday morning. Among the 310 patrons present, 128 foreign men and 116 foreign women were checked, alongside 66 local citizens. As a result, 106 Indonesian men, 79 Indonesian women, one Cambodian man, one Cambodian woman, and one Nepalese man, all aged between 21 and 35, were detained for overstaying and lacking valid travel documents.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the foreigners were detained under Section 51(5)(b) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and have been placed at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Lenggeng immigration depots for further investigations. The operation involved 129 immigration officers and 11 National Registration Department officers, and resulted in eight summonses being issued to the nightspot's supervisor, caretaker, and a woman deejay.
In KLANG, the Selangor Immigration Department (JIM) conducted a raid at an entertainment center in Bandar Bukit Tinggi through Op Gegar, arresting 12 foreigners. Selangor JIM director Khairrul Aminus Kamaruddin reported that those detained included seven Cambodian women, two Vietnamese, and one Thai, suspected of offering sexual services. Two bartenders, a Pakistani and a Vietnamese, were also arrested.
Khairrul Aminus explained that negotiations were initiated on social media, leading to meetings at the nightspot, with GROs being taken to hotels for fees ranging from RM150 to RM300 per hour. The cases are being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, as well as Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.
In a separate incident, Khairrul Aminus reported the arrest of four illegal immigrants, including a married couple with a one-year-old boy, under Op Sapu at Taman Klang Jaya. The raid followed complaints about the house being used as a transit point for foreigners. All detainees have been taken to the Selangor Immigration Office for further action.
