Kuala Lumpur: The Immigration Department has successfully reached a job rotation rate of 97.94 percent, involving the transfer or workplace rotation of 3,178 officers nationwide as of December 31, 2024, according to its director-general, Datuk Zakaria Shaaban.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the director-general emphasized that the department will persist in implementing transfers or job rotations for officers who have served in the same department for five years. This initiative aligns with the instructions provided by Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, as outlined in his message on January 20.
Zakaria highlighted that the implementation adheres to Service Circular No. 3/2024 - Guidelines for the Transfer of Civil Servants, and the Immigration Department Circular No. 1/2021 - Guidelines for the Placement and Transfer of Immigration Officers and Staff. He noted that job rotation is a continuous priority for the department, aimed at addressing issues of power abuse and integrity. It also provides officers with opportunities to take on new duties and responsibilities, enhancing their skills and knowledge.
The director-general further stated that the department treats any breaches of integrity by its officers seriously and maintains a strict no-compromise stance on such matters. Between 2022 and 2024, a total of 241 officers faced disciplinary action, with 46 dismissals.
Previously, Shamsul Azri had directed the Public Services Department to review and implement job rotation for civil servants who have served at service counters for more than five years, suggesting that such a duration is considered excessive and not ideal for any civil servant.
