Kuala lumpur: The Immigration Department must embrace the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in services to raise the quality of delivery to the public and efficiency of department operations. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail highlighted the potential benefits of AI integration, emphasizing its capacity to boost productivity and revenue collection for the country.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Saifuddin, speaking at the 103rd Immigration Day event themed 'AI Leading Immigration Reforms,' outlined the potential impacts of AI adoption. He noted that integrating AI would lead to increased productivity, a faster delivery system, and enhanced revenue collection. He underscored the necessity of embracing AI by pointing out the measures that need to be evaluated when discussing its adoption.

Saifuddin recommended that the department's officers and personnel participate in AI courses or programs offered by local universities. He suggested granting them leave for a week or two to acquire AI-related knowledge and develop skills to utilize evolving AI tools. Saifuddin cited global companies like Alibaba as examples of the successful use of AI technology.

He also stressed the importance of implementing people-centric approaches and improvements in service delivery, aligning with the intentions of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Saifuddin emphasized the need for procedural improvements and system improvisations to ensure the department remains at the forefront of providing services to the public.

Furthermore, Saifuddin called for a zero-tolerance policy against corruption or misconduct within the department, highlighting the importance of integrity. He urged swift action in cases of reported misconduct and the strengthening of an ethical work culture. Saifuddin also mentioned potential collaborations with the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to enhance integrity efforts.
