Kangar: Independence should not be seen merely as a legacy to enjoy but as a trust to fulfil through quality work, integrity, and dedication in duties. Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) vice-chancellor Datuk Prof Dr Zaliman Sauli emphasized the importance of translating the struggle to honour independence into tangible work, particularly efforts to maintain the institution's strength, principles, resilience, and relevance to national needs.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Zaliman articulated that in the context of the workplace, independence signifies the courage to address weaknesses, discard ineffective practices, innovate new solutions, and uphold what is right. He stressed the need for a shift in work culture from questioning the scope of responsibility to concentrating on the broader perspective and identifying improvements for university operations.
Zaliman reminded the UniMAP community that patriotism should extend beyond the symbolic act of flying the Jalur Gemilang, urging that it should also be manifested in the performance of duties. He encouraged showing the spirit of independence through work quality, integrity in administration, and sincerity in service.
Additionally, Zaliman urged the Chancellery staff to view daily tasks as more than routine responsibilities, instead treating each duty as a trust that significantly impacts the university's excellence. He called for a culture of integrity, professionalism, and efficiency, encouraging the pursuit of opportunities to enhance workflow and service delivery.
Zaliman highlighted the Chancellery's role as the administrative nerve centre of the university, bringing together leadership and staff across various roles to ensure UniMAP's progress and best service to the nation. He reflected on past generations' struggles for liberation, drawing a parallel to the current mission of ensuring the institution's solidity, principles, resilience, and relevance.
Zaliman concluded by emphasizing that UniMAP's strength in administration relies on the dedication of each individual, working collaboratively as one team towards a singular goal of empowering the university.
