Melaka: The rights of indigenous people (Orang Asal), early selection of election candidates, and strategies to engage young people through digital platforms were among the key issues raised by delegates at the 2026 Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) National Congress today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Indigenous Bureau delegate Hazli Rani emphasized the importance of continuous engagement with the Orang Asli community, beyond just during elections. He advocated for involving them in the party's structure and leadership to build trust and ensure that the community becomes part of PKR's political strength.

'We want the Orang Asli to be part of PKR's political strength, not merely voters whose votes we seek,' he stated during the presentation of motions at the 2026 PKR National Congress at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh.

Federal Territories delegate Datuk Afdlin Shauki suggested that division chiefs be named as candidates for the next General Election (GE) to allow them to engage with the people earlier. He proposed this proactive approach to establish trust and support from the states, with a review process in place for division chiefs who fail to meet responsibilities.

Melaka delegate Muhammad Hakimin Mokhtar highlighted the need for the party to engage young people through digital platforms, which have become their main source of information. He stressed the importance of adapting the party's communication methods to the preferences of the younger generation, emphasizing fast-paced, visual, and concise content.

He also urged the party to address youth issues beyond securing votes, including preparing them for the future economy and job market by acquiring relevant skills. Additionally, he warned of the need for swift action in combating slander and disinformation in the digital space, emphasizing the critical role of facts and truth against perceptions and emotions.
