Selangor:Social media influencers have been urged not to exploit issues related to race, religion, and royalty (3R), particularly religious rituals, for content creation to maintain harmony in the nation's multiracial society.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy National Unity Minister R. Yuneswaran emphasized the importance of influencers with significant followings acting responsibly by producing content that promotes positive values rather than engaging in 3R-related topics.
Yuneswaran commented on a recent incident involving an influencer who allegedly participated in a religious ceremony during the Thaipusam celebration at Batu Caves. He stressed the importance of respecting religious rituals and customs, especially those not practiced by the influencer. The ministry is taking the issue seriously and has left the investigation to the religious authorities and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
He advised the public against rushing to judgment or politicizing the matter, urging them to allow authorities to investigate and resolve the situation appropriately. Additionally, Yuneswaran invited influencers to collaborate with the ministry to promote the Federal Constitution, the Rukun Negara, and the National Nationhood Programme.
The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) confirmed that it is investigating a viral incident involving an individual, believed to be Muslim, who allegedly participated in a ritual of another religion, which is against Islamic law.
