Initial Report on FELDA Management and Losses Expected Next Week: Anwar

Selangor: The initial report regarding the management and loss issues of the Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA) is expected to be announced next week, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He emphasized that the report is not intended as a means of revenge but is part of the government's initiative to address and rectify issues within the agency through appropriate legal processes.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar clarified that he does not hold the authority to decide on investigations, charges, or penalties against individuals, as such decisions are to be made independently by relevant institutions. He stated, "Next week, the initial report on FELDA begins. They say this is revenge - what revenge? What abuse of power? Can I speak to the prosecutor, give views to the judge? No. Ask the Chief Justice. The Chief Justice has full independence and authority to decide," during his speech at the Reformis Pioneers Reunion Hi-Tea event at the Selangor International Trade Centre (SITC).

Furthermore, Anwar highlighted the necessity for governmental intervention in FELDA's issues, mentioning that the government annually allocates RM980 million to offset the agency's losses. He also addressed the neglect of the agency's managers' housing conditions, revealing the approval of RM450 million for necessary repairs.

"Recently, I met with FELDA managers; their houses were in a terrible state, having gone unrepaired for decades. Therefore, I had to approve RM450 million to repair all FELDA managers' houses nationwide," Anwar added.

In previous reports, the Special Committee on FELDA had been preparing an interim report on recommended improvements for the statutory body, which is to be submitted to the Prime Minister by month's end. This committee, established in June of the previous year, is tasked with reviewing the FELDA Strategic Plan 2025-2030, and has engaged with various stakeholders, including FELDA management, to scrutinize issues such as the delisting of FGV Holdings Bhd and governance weaknesses identified in the FELDA White Paper presented in the Dewan Rakyat in April 2019.
