Kuala lumpur: The Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) has announced that an inquest will be conducted to investigate the deaths of three individuals involved in a shooting incident that took place in Durian Tunggal, Melaka, on November 24 of last year. The decision comes as part of efforts to ascertain the cause and circumstances surrounding the fatalities and to determine if any criminal elements were involved.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the AGC received and reviewed the investigation papers submitted by the Royal Malaysia Police. Based on the evidence and findings, the AGC decided that an inquest should proceed under Section 339(1) of the Criminal Procedure Code. This action underscores the AGC's commitment to ensuring thorough and transparent examination of all facts and circumstances related to the incident.

The AGC emphasized its dedication to addressing incidents involving loss of life with seriousness and reiterated its promise to conduct legal actions and processes fairly and professionally, in line with the rule of law. The decision to hold an inquest reflects this commitment to independent scrutiny.

The shooting incident occurred when three men, aged between 24 and 29, were shot dead after one of them allegedly attacked a police corporal with a machete, injuring his left arm. This confrontation happened at an oil palm plantation in Durian Tunggal at approximately 4 am.

On May 26 of this year, Datuk M Kumar, Director of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID), stated that the investigation papers had been referred back to the AGC following the completion of several additional instructions requested by the prosecution.
