Inquest Reveals Emotional State of Zara Qairina After Encounter with Senior

Papar: The Coroner's Court investigating the death of Zara Qairina Mahathir heard that she appeared emotional after visiting dormitory room A3-6 on the night of July 15.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the revelation came from the 27th witness, a dormitory mate of Zara Qairina at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Tun Datu Mustapha, Papar, during the 31st day of the inquest proceedings. Lawyer Joan Goh, representing one of the students connected to the case, disclosed that the witness recounted hearing someone from an adjacent room summoning Zara Qairina to room A3-6.

The witness later learned that Zara Qairina had been accused of stealing a bank card belonging to a fellow student and was called to meet a Form Four senior in the adjacent dormitory room. However, the witness did not know the identity of the senior involved. Upon returning to room A3-5 around 11 pm, Zara Qairina was observed in an emotional state, lying on the floor and crying in front of her cupboard.

Goh highlighted that this was the first time the witness had seen Zara Qairina in such a condition. The Form One student had never previously complained about personal issues, academic stress, or harassment from other students. Furthermore, the witness noted that Zara Qairina frequently wrote in her purple and green diary, expressing aspirations such as joining BADAR, the school's surau supervisory body.

The witness maintained that she had no conflicts with Zara Qairina and was involved in a spot check on Zara Qairina's locker, where a missing flag pin was discovered.

Zara Qairina, aged 13, was pronounced dead at Queen Elizabeth Hospital on July 17, after being found unconscious in a drain near her school dormitory at 4 am on July 16. The inquest proceedings, overseen by Coroner Amir Shah Amir Hassan, are set to continue on November 5.
