Inquiry Panel Report On Azam Share Issue Ready Within Days – PM Anwar

Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the report by the Special Inquiry Committee concerning the share ownership issue involving Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki will be finalized in a matter of days. He emphasized that any further actions, including the potential extension of the investigation, will be contingent on the findings of this report.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Prime Minister highlighted that the suggestion to form a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) is premature. He explained, "Regarding the proposal for an RCI, it is rather premature, too early, because the investigation led by the Attorney General will be completed this week, in a few days. So let us first see whether there is justification or rationale to extend it, and in what scope it needs to be examined."

Anwar was addressing a question posed by V. Ganabatirau (PH-Klang) during Minister's Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat. Ganabatirau inquired about the specific actions expected from the proposed RCI, including its scope and investigation methods.

The inquiry committee is chaired by Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar and includes Public Service director-general Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz and Treasury secretary-general Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican. Anwar underlined the necessity for investigations to be transparent and fact-based, rather than driven by unfounded suspicions.

Anwar also drew attention to the significant increase in asset seizures through anti-corruption enforcement actions. He reported a surge to RM15.5 billion for the 2023 to 2025 period, attributing this rise to the dedication of enforcement agencies like the MACC, Inland Revenue Board, Royal Malaysian Customs Department, and Royal Malaysia Police.

He further mentioned that between November 2025 and February 2026, several high-profile cases were pursued, including charges against two Sabah state assemblymen, the prosecution of a former senior political secretary to the Prime Minister, and four senior officers of the Malaysian Armed Forces. These remarks were in response to Ganabatirau's original question about the MACC's recovery of money and assets in 2025 related to corruption and abuse of power cases, along with comparative statistics before and after the MADANI Government.
