Baku:The investigating officer in the case of Zara Qairina Mahathir informed the Coroner's Court that his investigation found no suspicious elements surrounding the circumstances of the student's death. Inspector Wong Yew Zhung, who served as the 83rd witness in the inquest, based his conclusion on findings from the scene, the student's diary, and medical examinations.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Inspector Wong stated that the findings indicated Zara Qairina suffered no injuries other than those consistent with a fall from a height. He asserted that his investigation did not reveal any suspicious circumstances, responding to questions from Shahlan Jufri, the lawyer representing Zara Qairina's mother.
Shahlan had raised concerns about whether a post-mortem examination was warranted given Zara Qairina's condition when found unconscious on the ground floor of the dormitory, and reports that she had been crying after meeting a senior student. Despite these concerns, Wong explained that the post-mortem examination supported the initial findings, showing no injuries inconsistent with a fall.
Wong further noted that although he received instructions to conduct a post-mortem, the necessary forms were not issued as the family refused to consent to the procedure. It was mentioned that Zara Qairina's mother, Noraidah Lamat, declined the examination despite being informed about it twice.
Zara Qairina passed away at Queen Elizabeth Hospital on July 17, 2025, following the incident at her school hostel on July 16.
