Kuala lumpur: There is no need for the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) to escort Malaysian vessels after Iran cleared them to exit the Strait of Hormuz. Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari emphasized Iran's full cooperation, highlighting the strong bilateral ties between Malaysia and Iran.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Adly Zahari expressed gratitude for the cooperation shown by the Iranian government and hoped for continued assistance on issues related to Malaysia's energy and economic needs. He made these remarks while speaking to reporters after launching the Malaysian Armed Forces Autism Initiative (IA-ATM) at the community rehabilitation centre in Umi Kem Terendak, Sungai Udang.
On Monday, the Iranian Embassy in Malaysia announced that the first Malaysian vessel had successfully passed through the Strait of Hormuz. This development follows Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's discussions with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, which enabled Malaysia to secure clearance for seven vessels stranded in the strategic waterway.
The Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage that handles approximately 20 percent of the world's crude oil and gas supply, has experienced disruptions due to ongoing attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran since February 28.
In other developments, the IA-ATM programme at Umi Kem Terendak, initiated on August 4, 2025, will continue until June 4, 2026. This initiative aims to benefit 20 children with autism through structured learning and therapy sessions. The programme incorporates 12 new modules developed by the National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM).
The launch event was attended by several notable figures including Malaysian Armed Forces assistant Chief of Staff for Personnel Services Maj Gen Datuk Indera Zahari Mohd Ariffin, Tabung Haji Southern Region director Rozimin Ahmed Kamil, NASOM chairman Julian Wong Ming Vui, and Melaka Social Welfare Department director Halyjah Muhammad.
