IRB Raises RM4.4 Bln In Additional Tax Assessments As Of June 30, 2026

Kuala lumpur: The Inland Revenue Board (IRB) has raised RM4.4 billion in additional tax assessments as of June 30, said its chief executive officer Datuk Dr Abu Tariq Jamaluddin. He stated that this achievement underscores the IRB's dedication to safeguarding the nation's revenue and enhancing the integrity of the taxation system.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Dr Abu Tariq emphasized the importance of strategic risk-based audits and compliance measures in identifying and addressing significant cases of non-compliance, such as tax evasion and aggressive tax planning. He highlighted that these efforts are crucial to maintaining the fairness of the tax system and ensuring that every taxpayer meets their obligations equitably.

At the 26th National Taxation Conference's opening ceremony, Dr Abu Tariq shared how the incorporation of artificial intelligence (AI) has revolutionized the IRB's decision-making process and bolstered risk management through enhanced data analysis. "AI has empowered the IRB's data analytics capabilities by enabling the processing, scrutiny, and analysis of more than 1.6 billion e-Invoices received to date," he remarked. This advancement allows for quick and accurate identification of transaction patterns, thereby increasing the effectiveness of compliance risk detection and supporting a more data-driven decision-making process.

The conference was officiated by Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, marking a significant milestone in the IRB's continuous efforts to improve tax compliance and revenue collection.
