Kuala Lumpur: Three Islamic agencies have collectively disbursed RM184,700 in aid to support the victims of the recent storm in Teluk Panglima Garang, targeting both affected residents and a religious school that suffered damages.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), the Malaysian Islamic Economic Development Foundation (YaPIEM), and Yayasan Taqwa under the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) provided the financial assistance. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar, announced that the aid is intended to benefit 65 households and Sekolah Rendah Agama (SRA) Kampung Medan, where 13 students sustained injuries during the storm.
JAKIM contributed RM86,400, Yayasan Taqwa provided RM65,000, and YaPIEM gave RM33,300. The funds were distributed directly to the affected residents and the school, as stated by Mohd Na'im during a site visit. He emphasized that the aid embodies the ihsan (compassion) principle under the Malaysia MADANI framework, underscoring the government's dedication to supporting disaster victims, irrespective of their background.
Mohd Na'im highlighted the necessity for religious agencies to extend their roles beyond spiritual guidance and embrace social and humanitarian responsibilities. He noted that RM70,000 of the total aid is earmarked for repairing SRA Kampung Medan and its surau, which accommodates 1,500 students. The restoration efforts are to be fast-tracked, particularly for students preparing for the Al-Quran and Fardhu Ain Classes (KAFA) Assessment Test (UPKK) scheduled for November 17.
He called for collective efforts to support the victims and fortify community solidarity, expressing the hope that recovery can be hastened with joint efforts. Mohd Na'im reaffirmed the MADANI government's commitment to the welfare of the people.
The storm, which hit around 4.15 pm on Wednesday, inflicted damage on six schools, a community hall, and approximately 40 homes. Affected sites included Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sijangkang Jaya, Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sijangkang Jaya, SK Kampung Medan, SRA Kampung Medan, SK Jalan Tanjung, SK Sungai Binjai, Dewan Wawasan Batu 9, the Sijangkang state constituency coordination office, and housing areas in Batu 9 and the Taman Sijangkang Jaya industrial zone.
