Kuala lumpur: Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob will be charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court tomorrow under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, lawyer Datuk Amer Hamzah Arshad, who represents Ismail Sabri, 66, confirmed today that his client would appear in court tomorrow. A check of the court system showed that the case would be mentioned before Judge Suzana Hussin at 9 am.

The Bera MP faces charges under Section 36(2) of the MACC Act 2009 related to the declaration of assets. Ismail Sabri was initially scheduled to be charged on August 7, but proceedings were postponed to August 27 after he was admitted to the National Heart Institute due to health issues.

Judge Suzana then postponed the case to August 27 following Amer Hamzah's request for an adjournment, citing Ismail Sabri's health concerns, including possible arrhythmia and a scheduled pacemaker procedure. Amer Hamzah noted that Ismail Sabri experienced heart problems while having his statement recorded by MACC on August 6.

The former prime minister has been called several times to provide statements regarding asset declarations made to MACC. Additionally, MACC seized RM170 million in cash in various foreign currencies and confiscated 16 kilogrammes of pure gold bars, valued at an estimated RM7 million, during investigations of alleged corruption and money laundering involving Ismail Sabri.

The seizures occurred during searches of a residence and an office reportedly used as 'safe houses', following investigations into four of Ismail Sabri's senior officers detained in February last year.
