Kulim:Kuala Lumpur: JAC Motors' distributor Evolvelectric Motors Sdn Bhd has signed an agreement with Feytech Holdings Bhd's subsidiary FT Assembly Sdn Bhd to assemble JAC's T9 Diesel, PHEV petrol, and BEV pickup trucks locally in Malaysia.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, this agreement represents a significant development for JAC Motors in Malaysia, as it will lead to the first locally assembled PHEV and BEV pickup trucks in the country. The initiative aims to enhance Malaysia's vehicle assembly capabilities in the light commercial new energy vehicle sector and support the local automotive manufacturing and supply chain ecosystem.
The phased completely knocked down (CKD) program will begin with the assembly of the T9 PHEV petrol model, followed by the T9 Diesel and BEV models, at Feytech's manufacturing facility in Kulim, Kedah. Production is set to start in November 2026 with a projected annual capacity of 3,000 units in the first year, and the BEV model production is expected to commence in January 2027.
Lau Yit Mun, CEO of Evolvelectric Motors, stated that this CKD program is a crucial step for JAC's expansion in Malaysia. Unlike other manufacturers who produce their pickup trucks in Thailand, JAC is establishing its production base in Malaysia. The company is also considering exporting pickup trucks from Malaysia, contingent on favorable conditions.
Feytech CEO Connie Go commented that the agreement enhances Feytech's capabilities in light commercial vehicle assembly and strengthens the company's manufacturing processes. It provides a platform for future development in vehicle assembly and related manufacturing activities.
