JAG Bhd Expands Recycling Operations with New Industrial Land Acquisition

Shah Alam:Total waste management company JAG Bhd is exploring opportunities to recycle discarded data centre equipment, solar panels, and electric vehicle (EV) batteries to broaden its recycling operations.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, JAG's chairperson and executive director, Datin Stacey Tan Siew Ching, announced that the group is expanding its operational capacity by acquiring industrial land in Hicom Industrial Estate, Shah Alam. This acquisition aims to provide additional space for production and storage as part of their growth strategy.

JAG's wholly-owned subsidiary, JAG Renewable Energy Sdn Bhd, is acquiring a 15,000-square-metre freehold industrial land in Hicom Industrial Estate from Japan-based Kobe Steel Ltd for RM36.89 million. This expansion is intended to strengthen JAG's ability to capture emerging end-of-life recycling opportunities from data centres, solar panels, and EV batteries.

Tan also mentioned that the group aims to recover value from more types of waste and operate on a larger scale. The growth strategy includes securing multi-year contracts with semiconductor companies and multinational corporations. As Malaysia sees increased investment in semiconductors, AI infrastructure, data centres, and high-value manufacturing, JAG aims to position itself as a trusted recovery partner for these industries.

Additionally, JAG plans to expand into non-scheduled waste and service-based treatment, including oil and gas waste and municipal electronic waste (e-waste). The group is also focusing on downstream processing, including gold and silver minting, to transform recovered precious metals into high-value finished products.

JAG's total waste management business remains its principal revenue contributor, accounting for approximately 92% of group revenue in the financial year ended December 31, 2025. The group recorded two consecutive profitable quarters, with a profit after tax of RM11.72 million in the first half of FY2026, supported by operational normalization, favorable metal prices, and improved production efficiency.

Tan emphasized the group's focus on improving operational efficiency and strengthening sourcing and recovery capabilities to extract more value from waste materials. She noted that earnings are influenced by metal prices, foreign exchange, and global industry conditions, and the group will manage inventory and costs carefully.

Furthermore, JAG recently announced the acquisition of a 6.17% stake in ASX-listed Metal Bank Ltd for A$752,400 (RM2.15 million) through a private placement. This acquisition aims to complement JAG's existing precious metal recycling and recovery operations, creating opportunities for potential long-term synergies and sustainable growth.
