Selangor:The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) is conducting an investigation into a social media post about a person believed to be Muslim who allegedly participated in religious rituals of another faith, which would contravene Islamic law.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, JAIS Director Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad announced that the investigation is being carried out under Sections 4 and 10 of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Selangor) Enactment 1995. These sections address acts of worship that violate Islamic law and actions that could bring Islam into disrepute.
Mohd Shahzihan noted that JAIS has not yet confirmed if the individual took part in the alleged act during the Thaipusam festival at Batu Caves, Selangor, as suggested by the viral post. He also mentioned the possibility that the post might have been altered using superimposition or artificial intelligence (AI).
The investigation will look into various aspects, including the location of the incident, to assess whether JAIS has jurisdiction to proceed under applicable laws. Mohd Shahzihan emphasized the importance of addressing issues concerning the faith of Muslims in Selangor with professionalism, accuracy, and fairness.
Recent media reports indicated that the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) and other authorities are responding to the circulation of videos purportedly showing a Muslim individual engaged in non-Muslim religious rituals. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr. Zulkifli Hasan acknowledged that these videos are associated with claims of acts of worship and the use of specific incantations.
