Gua musang: Part of Jalan Lojing-Gua Musang (FT185) near Kampung Jekjok remains limited to a single lane after a sinkhole appeared on August 7. In a Facebook post today, the Gua Musang Public Works Department (JKR) said the 8:30 am incident created a depression measuring 15 metres long, six metres wide, and 3.1 metres deep. The Gua Musang-bound lane has been fully closed, while only one lane remains open for traffic heading in the opposite direction. The sinkhole is believed to have formed due to water flow along the edge of the box culvert, and the affected area is continuing to expand, JKR said.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, traffic safety management measures have been put in place, with monitoring and site inspections ongoing in collaboration with Roadcare (M) Sdn Bhd, the Royal Malaysia Police, the Gua Musang Land and District Office, and Gua Musang District Council. Meanwhile, Gua Musang police chief Supt Sik Choon Foo advised motorists travelling along KM78 of Jalan Gua Musang-Lojing to exercise caution, especially at night, due to poor visibility. No accidents have been reported in the area so far, but motorists should drive slowly at night as the stretch is dark, he told Bernama.

A Bernama survey found the road lacks street lighting, making it difficult for drivers to spot hazards, particularly on curves. However, warning signs have been placed around the affected area, with safety cones along the damaged roadside to alert drivers. The hilly terrain and dense surrounding forest further increase risks, especially during heavy rain, when thick fog often envelops the road and limits visibility. Additionally, the road surface in several areas is uneven, with minor depressions that could worsen if not repaired promptly.

Since last year, multiple sinkhole incidents have been reported along this stretch, with the first occurring on November 23, forming one six-metre-deep at KM78, forcing the Lojing-bound lane to close. The second sinkhole, nine metres deep, was reported on December 12 at the same location, just five metres from the first. The third occurred on March 15 at the same spot, prompting another temporary closure before reopening to light vehicles on March 27 in time for Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
