Kuala lumpur: The Information Department (JAPEN) will strengthen the delivery of government information through a combination of digital platforms and face-to-face engagement to ensure the public receives information they can relate to and trust. Its director-general Erwin Khairul Ahmad emphasized that while digital platforms are increasingly prevalent, maintaining personal, heart-to-heart communication remains vital for the department's strategy.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Erwin Khairul stated that JAPEN will continue to enhance its digital content, including short videos and social media, while leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to keep government information relevant amid evolving media consumption patterns. He underlined the necessity of digital communications that maintain a personal touch to complement face-to-face interactions.
Erwin Khairul, who took office as JAPEN director-general on June 22, has already produced four short videos on government policies within his first eight days, illustrating a new approach he hopes the department will adopt. This initiative reflects his commitment to evolving government communication in line with changing public preferences for information consumption through digital means.
Moreover, Erwin Khairul highlighted the importance of developing a multi-skilled JAPEN workforce. He plans to achieve this through training, upskilling, and exposure to new technologies, including AI. To facilitate this, the department will conduct continuous training programs, collaborating with institutions like the Tun Abdul Razak Broadcasting and Information Institute (IPPTAR), and implement job rotation initiatives to ensure adaptability among JAPEN personnel in the shifting communications landscape.
