Johor darul ta'zim: Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) head coach Xisco Munoz admitted he is facing a selection dilemma ahead of the 2025-2026 Malaysia Cup final against Kuching City FC at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil here tomorrow night.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Spanish tactician said the abundance of quality players in the Southern Tigers squad, coupled with league regulations involving the combination of foreign and local players has made the selection process more challenging. He expressed the difficulty in choosing the best lineup due to the team's large pool of talented players and the need to adhere to regulations. Munoz highlighted the importance of understanding the combinations between foreign and national players to determine the best option for the starting eleven.
Munoz acknowledged that the selection process would be easier without restrictions but accepted the challenges as part of the situation his team must navigate. He also revealed that national winger Arif Aiman Mohd Hanapi could return to action after a six-month absence due to a hamstring injury. Arif Aiman sustained the injury during the 2027 Asian Cup qualifier against Nepal. Munoz noted that Arif Aiman is in the squad list but emphasized the need for patience as the player works to regain his condition and usual performance level.
Munoz anticipates a challenging match against Kuching City, which finished second in the Super League this season. He described the final as a clash between the top two teams in the country, highlighting the need for JDT to maintain focus to conclude their campaign successfully. Munoz stressed the importance of closing the season on a high note after an impressive run.
JDT aims to secure their sixth Malaysia Cup title, having previously won in 2017, 2019, 2022, 2023, and the 2024/2025 season. On the other hand, Kuching City, under Aidil Sharin Sahak's guidance, seeks to make history by claiming the trophy for the first time. The final will be officiated by four high-profile match officials from Qatar, reflecting the Malaysian Football League's commitment to maintaining high officiating standards in this prestigious competition.
