Jeddah Hosts Third Edition of International Nuclear Science Olympiad INSO 2026

Jeddah: The International Nuclear Science Olympiad INSO 2026 kicks off today in Jeddah with the participation of 19 countries. Prince Saud bin Mishaal bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Governor of Makkah Region, will sponsor the opening ceremony of this significant event, marking the third edition of the Olympiad. The event will bring together 120 students and scientific specialists from around the globe. According to Union of OIC News Agencies, the Olympiad is organized in partnership between the Ministry of Education, the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity Mawhiba, and the King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy. King Abdulaziz University is set to host the competitions from August 3 to 9, 2026. The International Atomic Energy Agency approved the Olympiad in 2024, establishing it as a platform for students to exchange knowledge in nuclear science and its peaceful applications. It aims to promote the use of nuclear technologies safely and peacefully, while encouraging youth to innovate and specialize in this crucial field. The Kingdom's engagement in the Olympiad, represented by Mawhiba, began with its first edition in the Philippines in 2024, followed by the second edition in Malaysia in 2025, where it secured five international awards, including a silver medal, three bronze medals, and a certificate of appreciation. The hosting of the third edition underscores Saudi Arabia's commitment to scientific excellence and solidifies its status as a hub for international scientific competitions, contributing to the preparation of national talents in advanced scientific domains. Saudi Arabia's organization of the Olympiad is a continuation of its successful track record in hosting international scientific competitions. Notable events include the International Chemistry Olympiad in 2024 in Riyadh and the Asian Physics Olympiad in 2025 in the Eastern Province. These events highlight the Kingdom's prominent role in organizing global scientific gatherings and fostering environments that enhance the capabilities of talented individuals, promoting scientific collaboration.
