Selangor: The Jelapang Padi Darul Ehsan (JPDE), or Darul Ehsan Rice Bowl initiative, recorded an average yield of 7.5 metric tonnes per hectare (MT/ha) for the 2025/2026 Season 2, about 70 per cent higher than Selangor's average of 4.4 MT/ha.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) Group chief executive officer Datuk Dr Mohamad Khairil Mohamad Razi stated that the programme covers 243 hectares as a pilot project under the Selangor Agro Transformation Plan, with support from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS). He emphasized that this achievement demonstrates the effectiveness of a more systematic approach encompassing the use of modern technology, more efficient farming practices, structured farm management, and close collaboration among government agencies, PKPS, and the paddy farming community.
Mohamad Khairil highlighted that the higher yields not only provide better economic returns for programme participants but also strengthen the state's food security agenda through the use of smart farming technologies, such as drones and machinery, to further enhance paddy field productivity. These ongoing efforts are aimed at supporting the Selangor government's aspiration to strengthen food security and ensure an adequate food supply for the people through more effective paddy field management.
Meanwhile, Mohamad Khairil mentioned that the first phase of the new planting season, which began on July 4, is expected to be harvested by early October, sustaining the momentum of the programme's achievements. PKPS extends its highest appreciation and gratitude to the Selangor government and MAFS for their strong support and close cooperation in making the JPDE a success.
He further elaborated that this achievement reinforces PKPS' role as the driving force behind the development of Selangor's agri-food sector, as they remain committed to introducing high-impact initiatives for the well-being of paddy farmers and the nation's food security, starting from the paddy fields. The positive impact of the pilot project has renewed confidence in the local agri-food sector's potential to grow through the adoption of efficient modern management practices.
The programme's success also strengthens the strategic multi-stakeholder collaboration model in empowering paddy farmers economically while attracting a new generation to venture into paddy cultivation. The transformation programme, which is being implemented in phases, is expected to remain a key catalyst for the future development of Selangor's agriculture sector and the state's food security.
