Kuala lumpur: A team from the Bukit Aman Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS) is set to travel to Sabah to record statements from three senior police officers. These officers were involved in the preliminary investigation of the death of Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay announced that a disciplinary investigation paper (KST) has been opened against the district police chief, who holds the rank of Superintendent; the district criminal investigation division chief, with the rank of ASP; and an investigating officer, with the rank of Inspector. They are under scrutiny for non-compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) during the investigation.
Ayob Khan stated that the Bukit Aman JIPS officers would be traveling to Sabah shortly to record these statements. The investigation is centered on the non-compliance with SOPs related to the case of Zara Qairina and the supervision of the involved investigating officers. Ayob Khan made these remarks during an event at the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka.
He emphasized that strict actions would be taken against any officers found guilty of violating investigation procedures. As of now, the three senior officers remain on duty.
Last Wednesday, Datuk M. Kumar, Director of Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department, revealed at a press conference that the initial findings from the Special Task Force indicated elements of non-compliance with procedures during the early stages of the investigation into Zara Qairina's death.
