Kuala lumpur: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has opened a Disciplinary Investigation Paper (KST) against 12 officers and personnel suspected of extorting RM2 million from a Vanuatu national. Bukit Aman Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS) director Datuk Aida Abdul Hamid stated that the action was taken in parallel with an ongoing investigation by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the JIPS investigation would focus on integrity matters to determine whether the officers had breached the code of conduct under the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993, based on the findings of the CID investigation. Datuk Aida Abdul Hamid also mentioned that JIPS would examine potential weaknesses in supervision, possible abuse of power, and any ethical violations or misconduct that could tarnish the image of the PDRM.

She further stated that a decision on whether the officers should be suspended from duty would be considered based on the developments in the CID and JIPS investigations, in accordance with the applicable regulations. Yesterday, Dang Wangi district police chief ACP Sazalee Adam confirmed the arrest of 12 police personnel of various ranks after they were suspected of extorting RM2 million from a Vanuatu national.
