Kuala lumpur: The Special Committee on Corruption (JKmR) convened a meeting today to examine the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) Annual Reports from 2021 to 2024. The focus was on the commission's achievements in enforcement, prevention initiatives, and efforts to enhance integrity in both the public and private sectors.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the meeting was chaired by Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah at the MACC headquarters and included participation from committee members such as Senator Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz, Datuk Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah, Young Syefura Othman, Datuk Lo Su Fui, and Mohd Shafizan Kepli. The discussions evaluated MACC's performance and the effectiveness of its operations while reinforcing JKmR's role as a mechanism for checks and balances.
The committee emphasized the importance of considering feedback from academia, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive anti-corruption strategy. The meeting suggested several improvements for the 2024 JKmR Annual Report, including the establishment of performance indicators and enhancing transparency in assessing MACC's outcomes.
Furthermore, the meeting underscored JKmR's ongoing commitment to ensuring MACC operates independently and professionally to uphold institutional integrity and accountability. As part of the day's agenda, JKmR members conducted a site visit to inspect key operational facilities such as the MACC.fm broadcasting center, video interview rooms, detention cells, and the digital forensics laboratory.
This site visit offered committee members firsthand insight into the processes of delivering anti-corruption messages, managing detainees, and the role of digital forensics in supporting corruption investigations.
