Penang: The Penang Public Works Department (JKR) has announced the full closure of state road P14, Jalan Tun Sardon (Bukit Baru), here starting today until 6 pm this Saturday. The closure follows a landslide reported along Jalan Tun Sardon this afternoon due to continuous heavy rain since early morning.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, JKR Penang stated that the road closure was necessary to facilitate clean-up works and other related repairs to be carried out by the contractor appointed by the Southwest District JKR. The department has urged road users in the affected area to cooperate throughout the closure period and advised them to use alternative routes and plan their journeys accordingly.
Earlier, media reports indicated that the 5 pm incident also caused several trees to fall, blocking the road in the area. The main route linking Balik Pulau and Paya Terubong was subsequently closed to all traffic after being covered by soil and fallen trees, posing a risk to motorists.
The terrifying moment was captured by a vehicle's dashboard camera, showing the driver narrowly avoiding the landslide.
