Johor Bahru Dominates Squatter House Figures in Johor

Johor bahru: Johor Bahru has the highest number of squatter houses in Johor, accounting for more than 80 percent of the 9,582 units recorded statewide. State Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor highlighted this issue based on data from the District Land Office from 2023 to September this year. The district recorded 8,059 houses across 56 settlements.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, these squatter cases involve several categories of land, including state government land, federal land, and land owned by developers. Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor shared this information with reporters during the launch of the Iskandar Puteri Low Carbon Carnival.

The state government has adopted a prudent approach to address squatter settlement issues involving local residents. Mohd Jafni stated that among the measures taken was offering housing to those who have lived in Johor for more than 10 years, allowing for a structured and gradual resettlement process.

He emphasized that residents would be relocated in stages according to the state government's plan. Additionally, firm action is set to be taken against illegal immigrants occupying squatter houses, ensuring proper management and resolution of the issue.
