Johor Police Investigate Online Game’s Role in Attack on Young Boy

Batu pahat: Police have not ruled out the possibility that a six-year-old boy, who was seriously injured after being slashed and stabbed in Kampung Parit Nipah Laut, Batu Pahat, two days ago, was attacked by his nine-year-old brother under the influence of an online video game.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad stated that preliminary investigations suggest the older brother allegedly acted out of anger after his online game 'Roblox' was disrupted, leading to the loss of about one million accumulated points when the victim damaged his mobile phone. The motive remains under investigation, but initial findings indicate that the boy may have attacked his younger brother because of the lost game points.

Ab Rahaman mentioned that the elder brother is believed to have experienced hallucinations at night due to the game, which seemingly 'instructed' him to harm family members before attacking his brother with a knife found in the house. Further investigations are ongoing, including obtaining a statement from the victim, who is currently being treated at Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital (HSNI) in Batu Pahat.

The parents of the two children, both aged 40, have been remanded to assist investigations under Section 326 of the Penal Code and Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001. The children are currently under the care of the Social Welfare Department (JKM), and the parents have been detained as they were believed to be aware of the incident, though the investigation is still in its early stages.

Ab Rahaman also noted that questioning has focused on family members and that investigation papers will be referred to the State Legal Adviser's Office for further action. Batu Pahat police chief ACP Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani had earlier reported that investigations began after police received a report from the victim's 41-year-old mother on the morning of the incident. The woman found her son seriously injured in the neck and immediately took him to HSNI for treatment.
