Johor bahru: A total of 1,529 officers and personnel of the Johor Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) contingent will be deployed through Op Ambang Merdeka 2026, which is set to begin tomorrow and continue until September 1. This operation aims to ensure public safety and order during the 69th National Day celebrations in the state.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad stated that the deployment includes 168 senior police officers and 1,361 junior police officers. These officers will be strategically stationed and will operate in stages and rotation at key locations expected to attract public gatherings.

The operation's primary focus is on crime prevention, maintaining public order, and ensuring smooth traffic flow. Areas of particular interest include Merdeka eve celebration sites, city centres, public hotspots, recreational areas, shopping centres, and main roads.

Datuk Ab Rahaman highlighted the importance of addressing activities that could jeopardize public safety, such as illegal racing, dangerous motorcycle riding, reckless driving, drug abuse, excessive alcohol consumption, and traffic rule violations. He emphasized that the public should celebrate Merdeka eve responsibly, comply with safety instructions, and plan their journeys in advance to avoid reckless driving.

He further advised attendees of the National Day celebrations to ensure their safety and that of their families by supervising children and avoiding bringing items that could pose safety threats. He stressed that the police would not tolerate any offences or disturbances to public order.

In a call for unity, Datuk Ab Rahaman urged the community to express their patriotism by celebrating the 69th National Day in a peaceful, safe, and orderly manner.
