Johor State Election Features Straight Fights in 14 Seats Between BN and PH

Kuala lumpur: Fourteen of the 56 State Legislative Assembly seats contested in the 16th Johor State Election will see straight fights between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH). According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Election Commission confirmed the lineup after the nomination process concluded today. Among the contested seats, three will see five-cornered fights, 27 will have three-cornered contests, and 12 will involve four-cornered battles.

The Machap state seat features a direct contest between incumbent Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi of BN and Muhammad Nur Hafiz Roslan from PH. In the Benut seat, new candidate Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan (BN) will face Abdul Razak Ismail (PH). Other notable head-to-head contests include the Buloh Kasap seat, with Datuk Zahari Sarip (BN) competing against Noraziah Mohd Razit (PH), and the Bentayan seat, where Chua Lee Huat (BN) and Ng Yak Howe (PH) will vie for victory.

Additional seats with direct BN-PH contests are Bekok, Tangkak, Yong Peng, Parit Yaani, Penggaram, Mengkibol, Tanjung Surat, Pulai Sebatang, Pekan Nanas, and Kukup. The five-cornered contests include Puteri Wangsa, Bukit Naning, and Bukit Batu, featuring candidates from various parties and independents.

The 12 four-cornered contests will take place in Tenang, Simpang Jeram, Maharani, Paloh, Endau, Tiram, Johor Jaya, Permas, Stulang, Skudai, Kota Iskandar, and Bukit Permai. Meanwhile, 27 state seats will witness three-cornered fights, marking a competitive election landscape.

For this election, BN and PH each have 56 candidates, while PN fields 33, Bersama 15, MUDA four, and both Parti Orang Asli Malaysia and Parti Sosialis Malaysia one candidate each, alongside six independents. The election is set for July 11, with early voting scheduled for July 7.
