Kuala lumpur: The Communications Ministry, in collaboration with the Information Department (JAPEN), has established two main media centres and 100 National Information Dissemination Centres (NADI) across Johor to facilitate comprehensive media coverage of the 16th Johor state election.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching announced that the two main centres are located at Hotel Seri Malaysia in Johor Bahru and NADI Kampung Sabak Awor in Muar. These facilities will operate daily from 9 am to 9 pm, commencing June 26 until the polling day on July 11. Teo assured that internet speeds would not fall below 100 Mbps, ensuring seamless transmission of videos and photos for media personnel.
The centres are well-equipped with high-speed internet access, laptops, desktop computers, and other essential facilities such as photocopiers and printers. This infrastructure aims to provide maximum convenience for media personnel covering the election.
Teo further elaborated on the efforts to maintain robust telecommunications coverage during the campaign period. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has been tasked with monitoring telecommunications companies to sustain optimal internet speeds. Additionally, the public is encouraged to use the MCMC Nexus application to assist the commission in monitoring and assessing internet signal strength in real time.
Emphasizing privacy, Teo reassured that personal data would remain confidential, with only technical data shared with telecommunications companies to enhance service quality. She also urged political parties and supporters to engage in respectful campaigning, avoiding sensitive issues related to race, religion, and royalty.
Furthermore, MCMC, in collaboration with the police, is actively monitoring social media content to eliminate elements of extreme provocation. Teo praised the Malaysian Media Council for the establishment of a fact-checking platform and encouraged the public to verify information before dissemination.
The Johor state election will conclude with polling on July 11, following early voting scheduled for July 7.
