Johor Strengthens Flood Preparedness Amid Weather Warnings

Kuala lumpur: Johor is enhancing its flood preparedness by ramping up regular monitoring of low-lying areas and riverbanks, and deploying assets to strategic locations. Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi stated that coordination with security agencies has been undertaken to ensure swift action can be taken in case water levels rise or hazardous sea conditions develop.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued weather updates, warning of continuous rainfall, strong winds, and rough seas expected in several parts of the country, including affected waters in the state. Latest reports forecast continuous rain for Segamat, Kluang, Mersing, Kulai, Kota Tinggi, and Johor Bahru from December 7 to 8.

First-category strong winds are anticipated in the eastern waters of Johor, Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan, Tioman, and surrounding areas, with wave heights expected to reach between 2.5 and 3.5 metres. Onn Hafiz Ghazi, through a Facebook post, urged the public to remain vigilant to weather and sea conditions, avoid recreational activities at beaches and coastal waters, and follow directives issued by the authorities for their safety.

The public is encouraged to stay informed through the National Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (PRABN), the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), and MetMalaysia.
