Johor bahru: The Johor UMNO Youth has filed a police report against Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi over comments allegedly related to 3R issues-race, religion, and royalty-that are feared to incite dissatisfaction and hostility towards the Royal Institution.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Johor UMNO Youth chief Noor Azleen Ambros stated that the comments from the former Rengit state assemblyman and UMNO Supreme Council member contained inciting elements that could potentially lead to public unrest. The report aims to prompt a thorough investigation under the Sedition Act 1948 (Act 15) and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Noor Azleen expressed respect for Mohd Puad's decision to leave the party but disagreed with the reasons provided, which he felt unnecessarily involved the Royal Institution in political matters. This statement was made during a press conference after lodging the report at the Seri Alam District Police Headquarters.
All 26 UMNO Youth divisions across the state are expected to file similar police reports on the issue. Earlier, Mohd Puad had announced his immediate resignation from UMNO via Facebook, citing his desire to express his views freely as the reason for his departure.
The Election Commission (EC) has scheduled June 27 as the nomination day for the Johor state election, with polling set for July 11.
