Johor bahru: The Johor government is set to introduce the Johor Economic Transformation Plan (JETP) to stimulate development across all 10 districts in its bid to achieve developed status by 2030. Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi emphasized that the plan aims to enhance the economic sector in each district, extending beyond the scope of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Onn Hafiz addressed concerns regarding the concentration of development in the economic zone and Johor Bahru district, affirming his commitment to progress across all districts and local authorities for the benefit of the state's four million residents. The JETP will focus on infrastructure, investor-friendly policies, incentives, and workforce provision, with 32 initiatives identified, 13 of which are high-impact and prioritized for accelerated implementation.
The plan includes a focus on the economic sectors in Johor Bahru and Kulai, positioning them as hubs for AI, high-tech manufacturing, the digital economy, aerospace, and export-oriented services. Additionally, Muar will be developed as a centre for tourism, high-value food processing, and industrial energy; Tangkak as a strategic transit and agro-tourism hub; and Segamat as a centre for high-value crop and biomass processing.
Furthermore, Batu Pahat's processing and manufacturing industries will be enhanced; Pontian will be developed as a blue-green energy and aquaculture hub; Kota Tinggi as an energy gateway, agricultural green chemistry hub, and tourism centre; Mersing as a blue economy and eco-tourism hub; and Kluang as a centre for high-value agro-processing, agriculture, and logistics. Onn Hafiz expressed optimism that the JETP will drive economic growth and increase income, creating employment opportunities for Johor's residents.
