Junior Asia Cup: Young Tigress End Campaign In Sixth Place

Kuala lumpur: The national women's junior squad had to settle for sixth place at the 2026 Women's Junior Asia Cup hockey tournament after losing 1-2 to Bangladesh in the fifth-sixth place playoff in Moqi, China, today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Bangladesh opened the score in the 31st minute through a penalty corner by Sharika Rimon, with Kona Akter extending the lead via a field goal in the 50th minute. Irdina Humaira Jeffrey scored a field goal nine minutes later (59th minute), but it was not enough to save Malaysia from defeat.

The national women's junior squad had previously been eliminated in the quarter-finals after losing 0-1 to South Korea on Thursday (Sept 10). The squad had previously set a primary target to secure one of the five qualifying spots for the 2027 Women's Junior World Cup.
