KADA Expects Padi Harvest To Be Completed Before Monsoon Season

Kota bharu: The Kemubu Agricultural Development Authority (KADA) expects 94 per cent of its total 26,664 hectares of padi fields under its supervision this season to be harvested before the onset of the monsoon season. KADA chairman Khalid Abd Samad stated that as of now, approximately 10 per cent or 2,500 hectares have been harvested, yielding an average of up to 4.5 tonnes per hectare. An additional 15,000 hectares are projected to be harvested within the next two weeks.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Khalid Abd Samad expressed that there might be minor delays for some farmers who commenced planting late; however, many are likely to opt for an earlier harvest to prevent losses due to potential floods. He addressed these remarks to reporters after inaugurating the KADA Entrepreneurs Carnival 2025.

During the event, Khalid also awarded grants totaling RM1.03 million to 42 entrepreneurs associated with the agency. He noted that by October 22, about 6,449 tonnes of padi had been sold at collection centers, with average deductions ranging between 23 and 27 per cent. This information counters earlier claims by some farmers who reported yield losses of up to 80 per cent in the media.

Khalid further disclosed KADA's plans to expand padi cultivation areas next year, with a focus on districts like Tumpat and Pasir Puteh. The expected completion of Kemubu 3 and 4 irrigation schemes in November will ensure adequate water supply for farmers, supporting these expansion efforts.
