KAF Calls On Gov’t To Fast-Track Land (Group Settlement Areas) Act Amendments

Kuala lumpur: The government has been urged to expedite the reviewing and amending process of the Land (Group Settlement Areas) Act 1960 (Act 530), which, among other objectives, aims to allow more than one house to be built on a single lot on Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) land.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, mumu stated that the existing law limits housing development on Felda land, making it difficult for the new generation of settlers to build their own homes. The amendments are deemed necessary to enable the younger generation to construct their houses, especially since the current act restricts the addition of electricity and water connections.

Mumu emphasized the urgency of allowing more than one house on an existing lot, highlighting the growing needs of the younger Felda generation. He expressed a strong desire for the amendment process to be expedited, noting that this advocacy has been ongoing for a considerable period.

He addressed reporters following the 9th KAF annual general meeting 2025, attended by 321 delegates from 317 Felda settlements across the nation. The meeting was officiated by Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.

Amizar added that the proposed amendments would ensure equal opportunities for all children of settlers to build homes on the lot, contrasting with the previous limitation of one house per lot. By allowing lot division, settlers' children can build their own houses, facilitating family cohesion without the need to purchase expensive land elsewhere. He gave an example where five children could each build a house on the lot, thus minimizing potential disputes.

He also mentioned that this initiative would help boost the local economy. The construction of more homes would improve residents' standard of living and purchasing power.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had previously mentioned on May 1 that the government plans to amend the act to address the housing challenges faced by the second, third, and fourth generations of settlers. Ahmad Zahid, who also serves as the Minister of Rural and Regional Development, noted that there are 317 Felda settlements nationwide, accommodating approximately 120,000 settlers across multiple generations.
