Melaka:The Ithbat Quran and Fardu Ain Classes Pre-Tahfiz Programme (IKP), initially launched as a pilot project in four schools in Melaka, is set to expand into the Federal Territories. This move aims to provide more primary school pupils with the opportunity to learn and memorise the Quran.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr. Zulkifli Hasan stated that the expansion would consider the capacity and suitability of schools to implement the programme. The pilot project in Melaka saw all 80 participating pupils achieve excellent results, showcasing the programme's potential for broader implementation.
The programme, which began in 2020, targeted Year Three to Year Six pupils, with assessments starting in 2025. The results of these assessments were announced today. Other states interested in the programme may explore its implementation through collaboration with the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) and their respective state religious authorities.
The initiative was developed to meet the strong demand from parents for tahfiz education while allowing children to attend Quran and Fardu Ain (KAFA) classes alongside tahfiz studies. Through the programme, children can participate in KAFA classes and learn to memorise the Quran from an early age.
Furthermore, Zulkifli mentioned that JAKIM, along with state religious authorities and relevant agencies, has developed a tahfiz education ecosystem. This includes the Malaysian Tahfiz Recognition Standards, the National Tahfiz Policy, and a certification framework featuring the Malaysian Tahfiz Certificate.
The KAFA Pratahfiz programme currently has 3,967 pupils enrolled, with 77 candidates for the 2025 IKP assessment and another 80 for the 2026 assessment. The pilot project involved four schools SRA JAIM Jelatang in Alor Gajah, SRA JAIM Tanjung Minyak 2, SRA JAIM Sungai Putat in Melaka Tengah, and SRA JAIM Taman Maju in Jasin.
