Kajang Prison’s Viral Curry Puff Among Crowd-pullers At Mypride Fair

Melaka: Various products made by prison inmates, including the viral frozen spiral curry puffs from Kajang Prison, are among the crowd-pullers at the Southern Zone edition of the Mypride Fair held at Kipmall Melaka, here, from Oct 22-26.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Melaka Prisons Parole Division chief Superintendent of Prisons Norul Hisyam Ismail stated that more than 15 sales booths featuring products from 10 prisons in Melaka and Johor, the Kajang Prison in Selangor, and the Inmate Reintegration Centre (PRP) in Mantin, Negeri Sembilan, were participating in the event.

Norul Hisyam highlighted that products sold at the Mypride Fair Southern Zone 2025 include frozen food, metalwork, woodcraft, fabric, fruits, and vegetables, with a target of RM80,000 in total sales for this edition. Additionally, reflexology services by inmates from PRP Mantin, a popular feature at all Prisons Department programmes, are available at the fair.

He mentioned this after the official opening ceremony of the fair, officiated by Melaka Prisons director, Deputy Commissioner of Prisons Rosman Norman @ Normin. A 'happy hour' sale offering discounts of up to 70 per cent on selected products is also being held to attract visitors and encourage public support.

The Southern Zone edition of the fair represents the final leg of the programme's nationwide tour this year, following earlier events in the Eastern, Central, Sabah, and Sarawak zones. The Mypride Fair aims to enhance the quality of prison-made products through skills training for staff and inmates, ensuring the products meet high standards and can compete in the market.

Norul Hisyam further explained that the fair seeks to increase employment and reintegration opportunities for inmates after their release, while promoting and marketing prison-made products directly to the public across the country.
