Kuala lumpur: Late Datuk Karam Singh Walia, who passed away at the age of 67, is remembered as a journalist who consistently prioritized punctuality and perfection in his broadcasting career.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Media Prima On-Air Presentation (OAP) general manager Kamaruddin Mape, who had known Karam Singh since 1997, highlighted his strong discipline in time management. This discipline was evident in his daily routine, especially as Kamaruddin and Karam Singh shared the same desk. They would remind each other if either arrived late at the office, reflecting Karam Singh's unwavering commitment to professionalism. Kamaruddin also noted Karam Singh's eloquence and mastery in delivering reports as qualities that should be emulated by younger generations. He set a high standard in television broadcasting, becoming a reference point for many in the industry.
Another colleague, Mohammad Yazzer Mahmun, shared his experiences with Karam Singh, highlighting memorable advice on sincerity in tasks. Mohammad Yazzer, now serving as Media Prima's network representative in Sabah, frequently sought Karam Singh's advice on public complaint issues, an area of expertise for the late journalist. He recounted a recent visit where Karam Singh's dedication to TV3 was evident, symbolized through a shared meal of chapati. Mohammad Yazzer expressed deep respect for Karam Singh, acknowledging the significant lessons learned from him in broadcasting.
Born in 1959 in Teluk Intan, Karam Singh began his career with TV3 in 1995, retiring in 2014 due to health issues. Known as one of the country's most influential environmental journalists, Karam Singh won the Anugerah Seri Angkasa twice and the MPI Awards for Best Environmental Television Journalist for four consecutive years from 2004 to 2007. He was also among those who received the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA in June 2024.
