Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) is intensifying its efforts to empower single mothers through the KasihnITa programme, which seeks to provide comprehensive support by uniting government agencies to offer advisory services, financial management education, and welfare assistance.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri announced that the programme, which has been under development for some time, is now being implemented in stages, with Sarawak joining Selangor as the latest beneficiary. The initiative involves collaboration with agencies such as the Credit Counselling and Debt Management Agency (AKPK), Bank Negara Malaysia, Legal Aid Department, and Syariah Judiciary Department to ensure single mothers are informed about the available services and assistance.

Nancy emphasized the importance of equipping participants with financial management skills to enable effective family financial planning. Furthermore, KPWKM aims to collect direct feedback from participants to ensure future policies align with the specific needs of the target demographic.

Stressing the importance of inclusivity, Nancy stated, "We don't want any woman to be left behind in the development agenda. Our goal is to foster a more inclusive, prosperous, and resilient society through knowledge and support." She noted that approximately 130 participants attended the three-day programme.

Addressing child maintenance claims, Nancy highlighted that the programme also serves as a platform for single mothers to consult with the Legal Aid Department and Syariah Judiciary regarding legal actions if ex-husbands fail to meet court-ordered maintenance payments. The support extends beyond financial aid to include legal assistance, empowering single mothers to uphold their children's rights.

"Programmes like this give them the confidence that they are not alone. They can share experiences and support one another in moving forward with their families," Nancy concluded.
