Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) will expand the implementation of the Kuasa Orang Muda (KOM) initiative nationwide to strengthen democratic education among youth as a long-term investment following the implementation of Undi18. According to BERNAMA News Agency, Youth and Sports Minister Dr. Mohammed Taufiq Johari stated that the initiative, under the Rakan Muda umbrella, aims to increase political literacy, democracy, and leadership among youth. This effort is intended to produce a generation that is knowledgeable, thinks critically, and can make mature and responsible decisions. Dr. Mohammed Taufiq explained that the initiative would involve visiting various higher education institutions and communities, organizing carnivals, and focusing specifically on young people. He emphasized that this is not a one-off program but requires multiple sessions over time to achieve significant outcomes. The initiative follows the implementation of Vote 18, which began on January 1, 2022, as per the K uching, Sarawak High Court's decision on September 6, 2021. The Minister highlighted that the approach is straightforward and the modules developed are neutral, devoid of partisan political elements. They provide space for youth to make informed choices based on their understanding. He stressed the importance of promoting politics of performance over identity politics, encouraging young people to choose leaders based on data, facts, and performance rather than sentiment. The initiative is designed to empower young people with the knowledge to understand their role in shaping the country's future and make responsible choices. It seeks to systematically channel young people's views for policymakers' consideration in national development. During the Month of Friends of Democracy, a variety of programs will be held nationwide, with a key event being the Youth Power Festival x Mega Careers and Study Fair (MCASF) 2026 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on August 22 and 23. The KOM Tour Series will also visit higher learning institutions and public hotspots. The program includes participation from Kota Kinabalu Polytechnic, Merlimau Polytechnic, MAHSA University, Pasar Siswa in Pahang, Business Festival at University College MAIWP International (UCMI), Kuala Lumpur, and Lorong Belakang in Cyberjaya. Additionally, KOM's digital platform offers e-learning modules related to public policy and local socio-economic information through belajar.kuasaorangmuda.com. It also introduces the 'Youth Power Voice' component to gather youth aspirations in a structured, inclusive, and neutral manner for policymakers' consideration.
