Kedah KPDN Initiates Support for Farmers’ Fuel Permit Applications

Kedah: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Kedah is committed to assisting farmers in obtaining special permits to purchase petrol or diesel exceeding 20 litres.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Enforcement Chief Zalina Aziz stated that the ministry is organizing on-site programmes and engagement sessions to address the needs of farmers who require significant quantities of fuel for machinery such as grass cutters, water pumps, or tractors. These efforts allow farmers to apply for a special permit to purchase fuel in drums or tanks under the agriculture and livestock category, based on their land size and machinery requirements.

Zalina noted that applications for the special permit are free and can be made online through the KPDN Supply Permit System. The permits, which can only be used at designated petrol stations near the applicant's farm or operational area, aim to streamline the process for farmers needing more than 20 litres of fuel.

To further facilitate the process, KPDN has conducted engagement tours involving the Regional Farmers' Organisation (PPK), the Muda Agricultural Development Authority (MADA), and the Federal Village Development and Security Committee (JPKKP) across 11 areas in the state. As a result of these efforts, 494 new special permits were approved between January 1 and June 1, 2026. The ministry brings equipment and officers to various locations to assist with the online application process.

The response to these initiatives has been positive, with each programme recording 20 to 30 new applications. Zalina emphasized that there have been no issues in the application process, as most applicants have received confirmation from relevant agencies such as PPK and MADA.

Furthermore, awareness among farmers regarding the need for the special permit has increased due to the outreach programmes. Zalina pointed out that many farmers now understand the requirement for a special permit when purchasing more than 20 litres of fuel, and numerous applications are submitted during engagement sessions with PPK and MADA. The ministry plans to enhance information dissemination and assistance to meet the agricultural fuel needs in accordance with regulations.
