Kedah KPDN Raids Suspected Illegal Cooking Oil Storage Facility

Kedah: A premises in Kedah was raided by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) after it was suspected of storing 1,823 kilogrammes (kg) of subsidised cooking oil packets without a valid permit.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Kedah KPDN director Muhammad Nizam Jamaludin stated that the raid was executed by a team of enforcement officers and members from the Alor Setar KPDN. This action followed information from the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) concerning the misappropriation of 1 kg packets of cooking oil.

The inspection took place at noon, where the raiding team encountered a 31-year-old man claiming to be the owner of the premises. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the premises contained 1,823 kg of packaged cooking oil.

Further inspection revealed that the premises owner could not provide a storage permit or a licence to sell scheduled controlled goods, specifically cooking oil. This is considered an offence under the Control of Supplies Act 1961. Consequently, all items, valued at RM5,457.50, were seized by authorities.

The premises owner was detained to assist in the investigation and was later released on police bail after the recording of statements and completion of the documentation process. The case remains under investigation, specifically under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 (Act 122).
