Kuala lumpur: The Kedah Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) is conducting an investigation into a reported tiger sighting at Kampung Selarong Panjang, Mahang, near Kulim. Dr. Abdul Malek Mohd Yusof, the department's director, alongside four members of the Malayan Tiger Conservation Unit, has engaged with a local villager who claimed to have seen the tiger at approximately 11:35 a.m. today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the villager reported spotting the tiger while driving home around 2:30 a.m. on Jalan Kampung Selarong-Mahang. However, the investigation by Dr. Abdul Malek and his team found no direct evidence of the tiger's presence in the area. He did acknowledge the possibility that the tiger could roam the vicinity, citing a faded paw print discovered near the location of the alleged sighting.

The Malayan Tiger Conservation Unit plans to continue monitoring the area, which is characterized by rubber and oil palm plantations as well as orchards, to verify any tiger trails or presence. Dr. Abdul Malek has advised the villager to report any further sightings to the department. The location is situated six kilometers from Ulu Paip Forest Reserve and 22 kilometers from Gunong Inas Permanent Forest Reserve.
