Alor setar: Kedah police have successfully disposed of 1,385 modified motorcycle accessories valued at RM131,000, which were seized between 2024 and September of this year. Kedah Police Chief Datuk Adzli Abu Shah confirmed that the items disposed of included modified exhaust pipes, non-standard additional accessories, and various other parts deemed unsafe for road use.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the disposed components included 546 exhaust units, 574 swing arms, 15 carburettors, three Electronic Control Units (ECUs), 109 forks, and 138 other items. The disposal was conducted following a magistrate's order under Section 407 of the Criminal Procedure Code, using a road roller machine for the process.
All the confiscated motorcycle accessories were initially impounded under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Many more seized items are currently awaiting court orders for disposal. Adzli stated that motorcycle owners could reclaim their impounded motorcycles within 24 hours, provided they reinstall the original accessories.
The operation is part of efforts to address road safety concerns in the region. From January to October 5, 2025, there were 21,381 recorded road accident cases in the Kedah Contingent, a slight decrease compared to 21,453 cases in the same period in 2024. Notably, Kota Setar district saw a significant reduction in cases, with 4,485 incidents in 2025 compared to 4,773 in 2024. Additionally, the number of fatal accidents in the Kuala Muda district decreased by 45 cases, with 62 fatal accidents recorded from January to October, compared to 107 cases during the same period last year.
