Kedah Raja Muda Praises Grandfather for Reporting Grandson’s Drug Abuse

Merbok: The Raja Muda of Kedah, Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah Sultan Sallehuddin, has commended an elderly resident of Kampung Sungai Pial, Merbok, for taking the initiative to report his grandson's involvement in drug abuse to the authorities. His Royal Highness emphasized the importance of such actions, describing them as both courageous and responsible.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah visited the elderly man at his home and praised his decision to prioritize his grandson's well-being by alerting the authorities. The Raja Muda highlighted that taking such steps can prevent more dire situations and stressed that reporting wrongdoing is both a religious and moral obligation. He encouraged others facing similar challenges to follow this example.

The visit was also attended by the Raja Puan Muda of Kedah, Che Puan Muda Zaheeda Mohamad Ariff. During the visit, Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah reiterated the role of agencies like the National Anti-Drugs Agency (NADA) in addressing drug abuse cases once they are reported.

Furthermore, Kuala Muda District Police Chief ACP Hanyan Ramlan provided details on the grandson's legal troubles. The 29-year-old had prior arrests for drug-related offenses in 2020, 2023, and 2024. He was arrested again following a report by his grandfather, and the police are pursuing charges under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

The story of the elderly man's actions was initially brought to public attention through media reports, highlighting the community's ongoing battle against drug abuse and the vital role of family intervention.
