Kota bharu: The Kelantan government has allocated RM3.64 million to the state Agriculture Department to implement 10 development projects this year, the State Legislative Assembly was told today. State Agriculture, Agro-Food Industry and Commodity Committee chairman Datuk Tuan Mohd Saripudin Tuan Ismail said the projects covered the utilisation of idle agricultural land, padi cultivation, various commodity crops, vegetable and fruit production, and entrepreneur development.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, commercial production was also strengthened through the Kelantan State Agriculture Development Corporation (PKPNK), with projects involving chilli fertigation, honeydew melon, and hydroponic vegetables at Rong Chenok Agro Valley. For the livestock sector, more than 380 breeders have benefited from state government programs covering the rearing of cattle, goats, sheep, deer, buffalo, and quail, as well as the provision of support equipment.
In the fisheries sector, RM382,094 was channelled to 122 breeders. In 2025, Kelantan's aquaculture production stood at 7,901.74 tonnes, valued at RM76.2 million, while a target of 8,000 tonnes has been set for this year. He said this in reply to a question from Mohd Adanan Hassan (PAS-Kelaboran) on the state government's efforts to drive the food security sector during the state assembly sitting at the Kota Darulnaim Complex here.
Tuan Mohd Saripudin further said assistance had also been provided to fishermen and breeders, while efforts to strengthen fish and prawn breeding facilities included the construction of more than 130 artificial hatcheries and the release of 1.26 million fish and prawn fry into public waters. PKPNK has the capacity to produce up to one million catfish fry and 500,000 tilapia fry annually, while its white prawn project in Pantai Geting, Tumpat, produces about 400,000 kilogrammes a year.
Tuan Mohd Saripudin said that as of last June, 1,560 entrepreneurs had benefited from 74 marketing infrastructure facilities and 99 marketing outlets provided by the state government. The Kota Bharu Rural Transformation Centre (RTC), which serves as an agro-food marketing and distribution hub, has provided business space to about 800 entrepreneurs and recorded sales of RM4.16 billion from 2012 to 2025.
