Kelantan Explores New Revenue Streams, Including Ree Mining

Kota bharu: The Kelantan government is exploring various new revenue streams, including the industrial mining of rare earth elements (REE), new energy development, and the exploration of carbon and hydrogen to generate additional income sources for the state. Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Dr. Mohamed Fadzli Hassan stated that these initiatives aim to reduce the state's dependency on traditional revenue sources.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohamed Fadzli emphasized the importance of identifying new economic opportunities as future economic growth resources, highlighting Kelantan's position as the second state with the largest mineral resources of non-radioactive rare earth elements (NR-REE) in Malaysia. This announcement was made in response to a question from Tuan Kamaruzaman Mohamad (PAS-Gual Periok) during the State Legislative Assembly sitting at the Kota Darulnaim Complex.

Despite the enthusiasm for these new ventures, Mohamed Fadzli clarified that the state government must proceed cautiously, adhering to federal laws and policies. He noted that the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) is in the final stages of tabling the National Climate Change Bill, along with the expected passage of the National Carbon Market Policy by the end of the year.
